Will Shakib, the murder case accused, be able to play?

A murder case has been filed against national team cricketer and former Member of Parliament Shakib Al Hasan. The case was registered on Thursday night (August 22) at the Adabor Police Station.

Shakib has been named as the 28th accused in the case, allegedly as the person who ordered the killing. The case was filed by Rafiqul Islam, the father of Rubel, a garment worker.

Currently, Shakib is playing in a Test match against Pakistan. So far, no arrest warrant has been issued against him. If an arrest warrant is issued, the police may arrest him if he returns to Bangladesh.

During the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, this former Member of Parliament from the Awami League was busy with cricket abroad. In that case, even if an arrest warrant is issued, he might be granted bail by proving his absence from the crime scene.

If that happens, there will be no obstacle to his playing. If the charges against Shakib are dismissed before that, the matter could be resolved naturally.

It is not yet confirmed whether Shakib will seek anticipatory bail and continue playing. Earlier, pacer Rubel Hossain was arrested in a rape case filed by actress Naznin Akter Happy. Later, he was released on bail and continued playing after getting out of jail.

In the case statement, the plaintiff alleged that on August 5, Rubel participated in a protest march on Ring Road in Adabor.

At that time, under the direct and indirect orders, provocation, assistance, collaboration, and direct support of the accused, someone fired shots at the march. Rubel was shot in the chest and abdomen, and after being taken to the hospital, he died on August 7 while undergoing treatment.
