Will Rohit and his team go to Pakistan to play in the Champions Trophy? Indian board’s position clarified by Secretary Jay Shah.
The relationship between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been strained for several years due to political and diplomatic reasons. In this context, discussions have begun regarding the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan, raising questions about whether the Indian team will participate.
Jay Shah, the Secretary of the BCCI and also the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), has clearly stated that under the current circumstances, the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan to participate in the Champions Trophy. He emphasized that the safety of the players is of utmost importance, and for this reason, the Indian team will not play in Pakistan.
However, India is exploring alternative arrangements to participate in the Champions Trophy, such as holding the tournament at a neutral venue. The BCCI is in discussions with the International Cricket Council (ICC) on this matter. Jay Shah also mentioned that no final decision can be made without the approval of the Indian government.
Since 2008, India and Pakistan have not played a regular bilateral series; their encounters have only taken place in ICC and Asian tournaments. Therefore, there remains uncertainty about whether India and Pakistan will face each other in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
