The Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) was successfully held in Dhaka. The important meeting began at 2 PM on Thursday (July 24) at Hotel InterContinental in the capital and concluded later in the afternoon.
Initially, the meeting faced uncertainty due to objections from the cricket boards of India, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. However, in the end, all 25 member nations participated. While representatives from India and Sri Lanka joined virtually, they actively took part in the discussions.
At a press conference following the meeting, ACC President Mohsin Raza Naqvi said, “Alhamdulillah, the AGM meeting was successfully completed. I appreciate BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul’s leadership and hospitality.”
Naqvi further added, “We want to work together for the development of cricket. We all agree on keeping the ACC free from politics. Discussions are ongoing with the BCCI regarding the dates and schedule of the Asia Cup, and an announcement will be made very soon.”
This time, the Asia Cup will be hosted by India, but the venue and fixture have not yet been finalized. The ACC President also mentioned that a decision regarding the India-Pakistan match will be made soon.
The meeting also included discussions about the 2027 Asia Cup. On this, Naqvi said, “Aminul Bhai and I will resolve some issues together. A decision will be announced as soon as possible.”
BCB President Bulbul said, “This meeting has proven that leadership, cooperation, and collective effort are what matter most. We are working in the best interests of cricket.”
Despite being held virtually for some members, the participation and effective discussions have sent a strong message of unity within the ACC. Now, the only thing left is the official announcement of the upcoming Asia Cup.
