After the recent T20 World Cup, many thought Rohit Sharma would gradually move away from cricket. However, the Indian hard-hitting opener expressed differently. He revealed his passion for cricket and shared his experiences of ups and downs and the unknowns of success.
In an interview with the radio station ‘Dubai Eye,’ the Indian captain spoke on various topics. He said, ‘My journey in India for 17 years has been fantastic. I am optimistic and can play for a few more years. I want to influence world cricket through my game. I have seen many ups and downs in my life. Where I stand now is possible because of these ups and downs.’
Rohit was appointed as the permanent captain at the beginning of 2022. Although he had previously served as captain irregularly. Despite not initially considering leadership, Rohit now regards captaincy for the country as the greatest honor.
He said, ‘Captaining the country is the greatest honor. I never thought something like this would come into my life, but one day I will lead. However, people say, is anything good with good people?’
‘I had a goal to move forward only by team performance. Personal records and milestones have no relation. Eleven players playing together and their goal should be to win the trophy,’ Rohit added.
Facing South African pacer Dale Steyn was the most challenging aspect of Rohit’s cricket career. He said, ‘Before going to bat, I watched Dale Steyn’s video 100 times.
He is a legend and what he has achieved is extraordinary. It was challenging to play against him, and the great success I achieved against him was not easy. But I enjoyed my game.
