After the first two matches were washed out by rain, the final and deciding game of the three-match T20 series between Ireland and West Indies finally took place on Sunday (June 15). In a match full of runs, West Indies secured a dominant 62-run victory to seal the series.
Losing the toss and batting first, the Caribbean batters got off to a fantastic start. They posted a massive total of 256 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Evin Lewis was the standout performer with the bat, blasting 91 runs off just 41 balls, including 7 fours and 8 sixes.
Captain Shai Hope contributed 51 runs off 27 balls, while Keacy Carty played a destructive knock of 49 runs from 22 balls. Towards the end of the innings, Romario Shepherd remained unbeaten with a quickfire 19 off 6 balls. Among the Irish bowlers, Matthew Humphreys was the only bright spot, taking 2 wickets for just 16 runs in his 4 overs.
Chasing a daunting target of 257, Ireland came under pressure early on. However, a 101-run stand for the second wicket between Ross Adair and Harry Tector provided some resistance. But once Tector was dismissed for 38, Ireland’s innings started to crumble. Adair was the top scorer with 48 runs off 36 balls, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Later in the innings, Mark Adair tried to reduce the margin of defeat with a quick 31 off 14 balls, but it wasn’t enough. Ireland ended their innings at 194 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. Akeal Hosein was the most successful bowler for the West Indies, taking 3 wickets for 27 runs in his 4 overs.
With a win in the only completed match of the series, West Indies secured a 1–0 series victory.
