Former captain and coach Waqar Younis might soon take on a significant role in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). A PCB-related source revealed on Tuesday that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is considering assigning Younis important cricket-related responsibilities.
The source mentioned that the PCB chairman has the authority to delegate cricket-related duties to anyone.
He said, “Upon approval, Younis will oversee any cricket-related matters for the board.”
This decision comes after Mohsin Naqvi faced criticism from several senior cricketers and an interim minister for holding multiple roles.
Earlier in the day, a report stated that Naqvi is set to replace Jay Shah as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The ACC president is elected through a rotation system. Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is currently serving as the ACC President, and his term was extended by one year in January this year.
Once Jay Shah’s term ends, Naqvi will take over as ACC President for the next two years.
In the latest ACC meeting, the election of the next president was discussed, and a formal announcement is expected in the October-November meeting.
