The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is Continuing in India. However, Wanindu Hasaranga was unable to participate in the competition’s start due to commitments with the national team. The Sri Lankan spinner has withdrawn from the unfortunate tournament for Sunrisers Hyderabad until the end. Hasaranga has arrived in Bangladesh for treatment. He has been battling an injury and might have been able to play in the IPL with painkiller injections, but the Sri Lankan cricket star is not currently taking that risk.
Hasaranga has decided not to return from the Bangladesh tour. This decision has been confirmed by Sri Lanka’s news media outlet, ‘Sunday Times.’ The reason behind the decision is the upcoming T20 World Cup.
In June, the cricket festival of the Cricket World Cup will take place in the United States and the West Indies. Sri Lankan cricket administration hopes to have a fit Hasaranga for the competition. Regarding this, the CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket stated, “He won’t play in the IPL. Doctors have advised him to stay back for recovery.”
Last December, Hyderabad signed Hasaranga for 15.5 crore rupees. Before that, in the 2022 auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore bought the Sri Lankan star for 11 crores. In that season, he took 26 wickets in 16 matches. However, his performance declined in the following season. He took only 9 wickets in 8 matches. Bangalore released Hasaranga.
This time, Hyderabad signed the Sri Lankan star, understanding the opportunity. Although he won’t be available for a few matches initially, Orange Army secured Hasaranga. Arrangers have bought him to find an alternative until the end, knowing that a few matches won’t be available at the start. The former champions are looking for a replacement until the end.
