Wade joins Australia’s coaching panel after retirement

Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade has announced his retirement from international cricket. Right after his announcement, he joined Australia’s coaching panel.

Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed this news.

Regarding his retirement, Wade said, “After the last T20 World Cup, I felt that my international career was likely over. Over the past six months, I regularly spoke with George Bailey and Andrew McDonald before making the decision to leave international cricket.”

Wade shared that he had already planned to join coaching after retiring from the national team. He said, “I’ve had coaching on my mind for a few years now. Fortunately, I got a great opportunity, and I am very excited and grateful.”

Cricket Australia’s CEO Nick Hockley said, “Congratulations to Wade on an outstanding international career. He performed very well in all formats of the game. He’ll do well in coaching after retirement, shaping future stars, and he’ll play for Hobart in the Big Bash.”

Wade mentioned that although he has retired from international cricket, he will continue playing in domestic T20 tournaments.

Wade made his debut in T20 cricket in 2011. Since then, the 36-year-old has scored 1,613 runs in 36 Tests, 1,867 runs in 97 ODIs, and 202 runs in 92 T20Is for Australia.

Wade played a crucial role in Australia’s T20 World Cup victory in 2021 and has captained the team in 13 T20 matches.
