Bangladesh Restrained to 153 by the United States in First T20
On Tuesday, May 21, in Houston, the United States restricted Bangladesh to 153 runs for 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In response, the United States clinched victory with five wickets in hand and three balls to spare.
After losing the toss, Bangladesh batted first. The opening duo, Liton Kumar Das and Soumya Sarkar, were dismissed with the team’s score at 34 runs in 5.1 overs.
Liton Das was LBW for 14 runs off 15 balls, while Soumya Sarkar scored 20 runs off 13 balls. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was out trying to charge down the wicket, managing just 3 runs off 11 balls. Following Shanto’s dismissal, Shakib Al Hasan was run out after scoring 6 runs off 12 balls.
However, a partnership between Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah Riyad provided Bangladesh with a competitive total. Mahmudullah was dismissed for 31 runs off 22 balls, while Hridoy played a crucial innings of 58 runs off 47 balls. Zakir Ali remained unbeaten with 9 runs off 5 balls.
Chasing a target of 154, US openers Steven Taylor and Monank Patel started aggressively. However, Monank was run out for 12 runs off 10 balls with the team score at 27. Taylor then partnered with Andries Gous to keep the scoreboard ticking. Gous was dismissed by Rishad Hossain for 23 runs off 18 balls at a team score of 65.
Bangladesh’s pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Shariful Islam brought Bangladesh back into the game by taking three wickets for 29 runs. Taylor was dismissed for 28 runs off 29 balls, Aaron Jones for 4 runs off 12 balls, and Nitish Kumar for 10 runs off 10 balls.
However, Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh’s batting helped the US fight back. Harmeet’s aggressive 33 runs off 13 balls led the United States to a five-wicket victory with three balls to spare.
