Tiger Fans Seek Ireland Series

Disappointed by their team’s performance in CWC 2023, Bangladeshi fans are already seeking a series with Ireland.

Bangladeshi fans are very creative when it comes to expressing disappointment. A recently surfaced “Meme” depicting a lost tiger in the woods with a bottom text saying, “Bhai Ireland Series Kobe?” which translates to “Brother, when is the Ireland Series?” is getting hundreds if not thousands of engagements on Facebook.

Although we couldn’t verify the creator, the disappointment among the Bangladeshi fans is visible through the humor behind it. The meme suggests that Bangladesh should prioritize its series with Ireland instead of the current World Cup. Ireland is a country that received their Test status 17 years after Bangladesh in 2017. In ODI encounters, Bangladesh defeated Ireland 11 times in exchange for 2 defeats. So, according to the meme, Bangladesh should focus on playing against Ireland and let the CWC slide by.

It’s easy to understand why the fans have made such a satirical request. Since 1999, Bangladesh has participated in every ODI Cricket World Cup and produced mediocre results at best. This year, the Tigers are again sliding into the abyss as the World Cup is halfway through. In CWC 2023, Bangladesh lost against England, India, New Zealand, and, most recently, South Africa.
