Three Cricketers Penalized in Separate Incidents

Three cricketers from different countries have been penalized for breaching the code of conduct during cricket matches. Among them is South African pacer Gerald Coetzee, who was found guilty of making “inappropriate” remarks toward the umpire during the fourth T20I against India.

Additionally, Netherlands captain Scott Edwards and Oman’s Sufyan Mehmood were also penalized for separate incidents.

  1. Gerald Coetzee (South Africa):

Incident: During the final T20I in Johannesburg, Coetzee protested a wide call by making inappropriate comments toward the umpire.

Outcome: The ICC deemed this a Level 1 offense under its code of conduct. Coetzee admitted his mistake and was fined 50% of his match fee along with a formal reprimand by match referee Andy Pycroft.

  1. Scott Edwards (Netherlands):

Incident: In a T20I against Oman, Edwards was found guilty of showing his bat toward the umpire after being dismissed and throwing his bat and gloves.

Outcome: The ICC charged him with breaches of sections 2.8 and 2.2 of the code of conduct for equipment misuse and dissent. He was fined 10% of his match fee and received two demerit points.

  1. Sufyan Mehmood (Oman):

Incident: Sufyan celebrated excessively after dismissing Dutch batter Teja Nidamanuru, violating section 2.5, which penalizes any provocative gesture or language aimed at dismissed players.

Outcome: He was fined 10% of his match fee.

No Formal Hearings Required

Both Edwards and Sufyan accepted their offenses before match referee Niamur Rashid Rahul, avoiding the need for formal hearings.

Series Results

South Africa lost their home T20I series to India 3-1.

The Netherlands, however, claimed a 2-1 T20I series victory over Oman.
