In a tragic road accident, former Sri Lankan cricketer Thirimanne has been granted permission to enter the field only after being severely injured. Among the victims of the accident, Thirimanne’s car collided on Thursday morning with a lorry in the Anuradhapura area of Sri Lanka.
At the time, he was either in the driver’s seat or in the passenger seat, which is unclear. The front part of his car was badly damaged when it collided with a lorry coming from the opposite direction.
Thirimanne’s family members were also present in the car. However, none of them were critically injured, according to sources. The New York Strikers, his franchise team, has informed about the cricketer’s physical condition amidst his busy schedule in the Legends Cricket Trophy.
The franchise stated, “Thirimanne and his family members met with an accident while going to the temple. They have been taken to the hospital for observation. After medical examinations, it is confirmed that they are safe and there is no reason to worry.”
In December 2022, Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant suffered severe injuries in a fatal road accident. Since then, he has been off the field for over a year and will return to the game with the upcoming IPL season.
