The pitches for the T20 World Cup have reached the Nassau County Stadium in New York. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has specially prepared pitches at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
Through their establishment, the ICC has achieved a significant milestone in the preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Bangladesh will play their second match against South Africa’s opposition on June 10 at this ground.
In a press release, the ICC stated that with the assistance of DP World, the global logistics partner of ICC, from December, they have transported 10 drop-in pitches carefully prepared in Florida, using more than 20 semi-trailer trucks, towards New York.
These pitches, made from Bermuda grass for 31 times, have been laid out under the supervision of renowned curator Damian Hough from Adelaide Oval Turf Solutions, utilizing the impeccable expertise of the iconic Adelaide Oval.
Four pitches will be installed at the Nassau County Stadium, while the remaining six will be set up for nearby practice facilities. The local ground staff will assist in maintaining the pitches throughout the tournament. Chris Tetley, ICC’s Head of Events, mentioned, “These pitches are among the final elements of a remarkable project in international cricket.”
He highlighted the temporary venue and the creation of world-class pitches in the USA as innovative approaches for bringing the T20 World Cup to fruition globally.
Damian Hough, the principal curator of Adelaide Oval, expressed his enthusiasm for showcasing their skills to a global audience, stating, “We are investing heavily in laying the pitches in New York to ensure we deliver the highest-quality product.”
At the Nassau County’s modern modular stadium with 34,000 seats, teams like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the USA, and Bangladesh will participate in eight matches of the World Cup. The first match on June 3 will feature the 2014 champions Sri Lanka against South Africa.
