BCB Busy with BPL: What’s New Coming Up
The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has been held for more than a decade, with ten editions completed so far. Yet, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has struggled to streamline its operations. Each season begins with various challenges and controversies.
However, following the change in leadership at the board, fans are hopeful for something new. The plans laid out by the new president, Faruq Ahmed, are inspiring optimism. Additionally, the involvement of chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus in the BPL has brought a new wave of hope.
The BCB is gearing up to revitalize the BPL. Several initiatives have already been undertaken. To everyone’s surprise, the schedule was released nearly three months before the games kick off. Along with that, some aspects of their planning have been revealed.
Yesterday (Tuesday), BCB President Faruq Ahmed addressed the matter in a video message. He shared his plans to deliver a successful tournament and expressed his commitment to making future editions even better.
He stated, “We have tried to make this BPL different from the previous ten editions. We have made a lot of plans. I hope it will be a very good tournament that satisfies everyone, and all of you will enjoy the BPL.”
He continued, “The first step is the schedule, which I believe will please everyone. Since it’s a long tournament, with some teams playing back-to-back games and others having to travel, we have arranged the schedule thoughtfully.”
Faruq shared positive news for fans, saying, “We’ve asked the digital rights holders to implement a digital perimeter board. We have told the TV production team that both broadcasting and production quality need to be top-notch. Technologies like Hawk-Eye and DRS will be in place.”
He added, “We are working to improve umpiring standards and will have foreign umpires. As you know, commentary is very important, and we are discussing with production teams to bring in big names to enhance the quality. Considering everything, I believe this BPL will be excellent.”
Addressing BPL fans and spectators, Faruq said, “We are working on going digital, so everyone can conveniently buy tickets and enjoy the matches. Those who wish to watch the games can purchase digital tickets through mobile phones and apps.”
Complaints about food and water in the stadiums have been common. The BCB aims to resolve this issue. On this, Faruq said, “There will be water corners where you can get free water. We are trying to make the gallery a zero-waste zone and keep everything clean.”
