Sunrisers Hyderabad broke the record for the highest runs scored once again

In the history of the IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad broke the record for the highest runs scored once again. Previously, they had surpassed Royal Challengers Bangalore’s record of 277 runs, which had stood for 11 years against Mumbai Indians. Now, within a span of 19 days, Hyderabad broke their own record.

On Monday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, in the designated overs’ final moments, Travis Head’s explosive century propelled Hyderabad to a mountainous 287 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Thus, Bengaluru needs to chase a record 288 runs for victory.

Before this, Hyderabad had scored a mountainous 277 runs against Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in the ongoing IPL. It was the highest team total in an innings by any team in IPL history. Today, behind this massive score in Hyderabad, the biggest contribution came from their Australian opener, Travis Head. Along with Abhishek Sharma, he established a 108-run opening partnership.

Even though Abhishek Sharma returned with 34 runs, Head continued to wreak havoc. He achieved a century in just 39 balls, making it the fourth fastest in IPL history. After his century, the opener only needed two more balls to score. However, he set the stage for the destruction that followed for the remaining batters. With 102 runs off 41 balls, he returned to the pavilion after hitting 9 fours and 8 sixes.

In Head’s place, Heinrich Klaasen kept tormenting Bengaluru’s bowlers. Playing a horrific inning, he scored 67 runs off just 31 balls, including 2 fours and 7 sixes.

When Klaasen was out, there were still three overs left in the innings. In those three overs, Eden Markram and Abdul Samad added 56 runs. Markram scored 32 runs off 17 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes, while Samad remained unbeaten with 37 runs off 10 balls, including 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Altogether, Hyderabad’s batters hit 22 sixes in this innings, setting a record for the most sixes in an innings in T20 history. Earlier, in the same venue, against Warriors India, Bengaluru had hit 21 sixes.

Hyderabad’s innings is the second highest in T20 history. Last year, Nepal set the record for the highest team total in T20 cricket by scoring 314 runs for the loss of three wickets against Mongolia in the Asian Games.
