The current franchise cricket’s standout star, Caribbean all-rounder Sunil Narine, has shone in various tournaments worldwide but hasn’t had much visibility in the national team. Despite bidding farewell to the national team in November 2023, he’s been urged to return by West Indies captain Rovman Powell before the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, Narine remains undecided.
In a recent IPL match against Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata’s star all-rounder Sunil Narine played an outstanding innings, scoring 109 runs off 56 balls with 13 fours and 6 sixes, marking his highest T20 score. His performance also saw him surpassing the milestone of 4000 runs in T20 cricket.
Following this remarkable performance, West Indies captain Rovman Powell expressed interest in Narine’s return to the national team before the upcoming T20 World Cup, but Narine hasn’t shown interest in the proposal.
At a press conference after the match, Powell expressed curiosity about Narine’s plans regarding a potential return to the national team but acknowledged Narine’s lack of enthusiasm. Despite Powell’s efforts and discussions with Narine’s close friends like Pollard, Bravo, and Pooran, Narine remains hesitant.
Regarding Narine’s future, Powell stated, “I haven’t made any plans against Sunil. I know he’s Kolkata’s best bowler, but when you need 80 runs off 30 balls, you need to take chances. I tried to do that.”
