South Africa has announced its squad, resting several star cricketers. The South African cricket team will tour the United Arab Emirates in September for series against Afghanistan and Ireland. The Proteas have revealed their squad for both series, excluding several first-choice players.
Among the experienced cricketers not included in the squad are stars like Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, Tabraiz Shamsi, Gerald Coetzee, David Miller, and Heinrich Klaasen. In their absence, South Africa has given opportunities to several young players.
The youngsters called up to the squad include Jason Smith and Andile Simelane. While Aiden Markram and Simelane are part of the ODI squad for the Afghanistan series, they are absent from the Ireland ODI series. Additionally, Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton have only been included in the ODI squad for the Ireland series.
Temba Bavuma will continue as the captain for both the Afghanistan and Ireland ODI series, while regular captain Aiden Markram will lead the T20 squad against Ireland.
The three-match ODI series between Afghanistan and South Africa will begin on September 18, with the remaining two ODIs scheduled for September 20 and 22. All three matches will be held in Sharjah.
The Ireland-South Africa series will take place in Abu Dhabi. Two T20 matches will be played on September 27 and 29, followed by a three-match ODI series on October 2, 4, and 7.
