Upon winning the toss, Sri Lanka’s decision to bowl first proved to be a little thought about one. The highly usual Kohli-Iyer-Gill trio preyed on the Lankan bowlers to collect a team total of 357 runs in 50 Overs. Shubman Gill (92) missed his century by a couple of runs. At the tailend, Ravindra Jadeja’s 35 runs marked a perfect end of the Indian innings. Dilshan Madushanka’s fantastic Five-wicket haul kept India from entering the 370-380 territory.

In contrast, Siraj (3/16) and Shami (5/18) obliterated the Lankan top order within the first 4 Overs. Sri Lanka stood at 3-4 after the initial Indian pace servo. Coming in hot at the 10th Over, the “Ferrari” Shami picked up back-to-back wickets, saying goodbye to Asalanka & Dushan. After the first powerplay, Sri Lanka managed to score 14 runs for 6 wickets with no hope for any recovery. Sri Lanka ended their nightmarish innings at 55 runs, the lowest total of CWC 2023 so far. Mohammed Shami’s Five-wicket haul was enough for him to get the Player of the Match title.
