Shakib Returns to Caribbean Premier League After Two Seasons

After a two-season break, Shakib Al Hasan is set to return to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). For the tournament’s 13th edition, the Bangladesh all-rounder has been picked by Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.

The newest franchise in the tournament, which replaced Jamaica Tallawahs last season, selected Shakib from the players’ draft on Wednesday (June 18). In this team, Shakib will join forces with the likes of Imad Wasim, Justin Greaves, Jayden Seales, and Rahkeem Cornwall.

So far, Shakib has played in five CPL editions for three different teams — Barbados Tridents, Jamaica Tallawahs, and Guyana Amazon Warriors. He last played in the 2022 season, representing Guyana. Across 36 CPL matches, he has scored 448 runs at a strike rate of 109.5, with a highest score of 54. With his left-arm spin, he has taken 37 wickets.

Shakib was last seen in Bangladesh colors on October 1 last year, during the final day of the Kanpur Test against India. Earlier this year, after the Pakistan Super League (PSL) resumed following a halt due to tensions between India and Pakistan, Shakib was brought in as a replacement player for Lahore Qalandars.

However, the 38-year-old couldn’t perform well, managing little impact in the three matches he played for the team. This season’s CPL is scheduled to begin on August 14 and will run until September 21.
