After finishing the BPL, Bangladesh will play a full-fledged series against Sri Lanka on home ground. The T20 and ODI squads have already been announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
However, Shakib Al Hasan’s name was not there. He won’t be playing as an all-rounder for the Tigers due to eye problems. This means Shakib’s return is being delayed further.
BCB’s Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Yunus confirmed the matter on Thursday. He mentioned that Shakib has withdrawn from the Sri Lanka series. As a result, the return of the Tiger all-rounder is becoming even longer.
Last year, Shakib suffered a finger injury during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup ODI matches. Then he missed the Test series, ODIs, and T20s against New Zealand at home.
Although Shakib returned to the field through the BPL, his eye problems came to the forefront. Doctors from several countries have been consulted.
Even though Shakib played in the BPL, his eye problem was apparent to the all-rounder. On one hand, he fought on the field, but on the other hand, he struggled with time wasted and returned to form fully in both batting and bowling. According to Jalal, Shakib was in form. He said, “Shakib’s return to form was evident, but he had a problem with his eyes, which was the issue. However, since he has taken a break for the Sri Lanka series, I hope he will definitely join us afterwards.”
