Sehwag Offers Advice to Babar for a Return to Form

Babar Azam is going through the toughest phase of his international cricket career. After the first Test of the ongoing series against England on home soil, the former Pakistan captain was dropped from the team. Virender Sehwag believes Babar’s struggle for runs may be due to a lack of confidence. To regain his form, the former Indian opener advised him to play domestic cricket to boost his self-belief.

In his last 18 Test innings, Babar has failed to reach fifty even once. In the first Test against England, he scored 30 and 5 in the two innings. Following that, he lost his place in the squad for the remaining two Tests. However, the Pakistani selectors claimed that he was “rested.”

In a conversation on former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar’s YouTube channel on Saturday, Sehwag said Babar needs to stay mentally strong during this tough time. The 30-year-old batsman will bounce back soon, Sehwag believes.

“Babar Azam should now play domestic cricket. He should work on his fitness, spend some time with family, and then return to international cricket as a physically fit and mentally strong player.”

“Due to reduced expectations from Babar and his resignation from captaincy, it seems he has been more mentally affected than technically. He needs to stay mentally tough. He is a talented player, and players like him have the ability to make quick comebacks,” added Sehwag.
