UK-based club cricketer Rizwan Javed has been banned from all forms of cricket. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed this through a press release on Thursday.
In September 2022, Rizwan, along with eight other cricketers, was implicated. Among them was Bangladesh’s Nasir Hossain, who is currently banned for two years. This time, English cricketer Rizwan faced a major penalty. The ban on Rizwan will be effective from September 19, 2023.
The first allegation against Rizwan was brought in 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League for attempting to fix matches or influence others to do so, as well as rewarding others for malpractice in their work. Requests were made directly or indirectly to fix matches in tournaments, coerce, or induce others. Not only that, but the full details of malpractice were not provided to investigators and assistance was not provided in the investigation.
On this issue, ICC General Manager Alex Marshall said, “Rizwan Javed has been banned from cricket for a long time for attempting professional cricketers to commit malpractice.”
