Rashid Khan got married along with his three brothers. Undoubtedly, Rashid Khan is the biggest star of Afghan cricket. He had likely become the most sought-after bachelor in the country as well. Fans were eager and curious about when the 26-year-old leg-spinner would tie the knot. Finally, the wait is over.
Afghanistan’s T20 captain, Rashid Khan, got married. And not alone—he and his three brothers tied the knot at the same time. Yesterday, at the Imperial Continental Hotel in the country’s capital, Kabul, Rashid and his brothers Amir Khalil, Zakiullah, and Raja Khan celebrated their weddings.
The event was attended by Rashid’s teammates Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Azmatullah Omarzai, Najibullah Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Fazalhaq Farooqi, as well as Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) Chairman Mirwais Ashraf and CEO Naseeb Khan, among others.
According to several media reports, Rashid and his brothers were married following Pashtun customs, though their wives’ names and identities were not disclosed. There was tight security both inside and outside the hotel in honor of Rashid’s wedding. A video showed security personnel standing guard with weapons in hand. The wedding festivities went on late into the night, with a grand feast for the guests.
Veteran Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi posted several pictures from the wedding on social media. He wrote, “Many, many congratulations on your weddings. Wishing you a happy and prosperous life.”
Not long ago, Omarzai himself got married. The pace-bowling all-rounder shared pictures from Rashid’s wedding and wrote, “Congratulations to national team champion Rashid Khan on getting married. Wishing him a happy life with Allah’s blessings.”
Back in 2020, Rashid had supposedly said that he wouldn’t get married until Afghanistan won a World Cup. However, during the 2022 Bangladesh tour, Rashid claimed he had no idea where such a statement came from.
At the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, the star leg-spinner told Bangladeshi journalists, “I’ve heard many times that I apparently said I’ll get married after winning the World Cup. I don’t know where I said this. I don’t have any voice recording of it. But it’s true that I get a lot of messages about this from fans. I once mentioned to the media that I didn’t have any plans to marry in the next two years because there was one ODI World Cup and one T20 World Cup coming up. After that, I’d think about marriage. People interpreted it differently.”
Under Rashid’s leadership, Afghanistan reached the semi-finals of the most recent T20 World Cup, which is the country’s greatest achievement in global tournaments. Over the past year, Afghanistan has defeated Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh in both ODI and T20 formats. They also recently won an ODI series against South Africa. Rashid celebrated his 26th birthday on the same day as Afghanistan’s series win against the Proteas, marking the occasion with a five-wicket haul.
