Nicholas Pooran has set a new milestone in T20 cricket. During a Caribbean Premier League match on Saturday, the West Indies wicketkeeper-batter broke Chris Gayle’s nine-year-old record.
Pooran is in good form, continuing his performance from the series against South Africa. This consistency helped him break Chris Gayle’s record.
In 2015, Gayle hit 135 sixes in T20 cricket. On Saturday, Pooran surpassed that record. So far in 2024, Pooran has hit 139 sixes in T20 cricket. With four months left in the year, he has more opportunities to increase that number.
Although Gayle has been dethroned, he still dominates the list of most sixes in a calendar year in T20 cricket. Apart from the top spot, Gayle holds positions from second to sixth. He hit 121 sixes in 2012, 116 in 2011, 112 in 2016, and 101 in 2017. Andre Russell, also from the West Indies, shares the sixth position with Gayle, hitting 101 sixes in 2019. Gayle is also in eighth place, with 100 sixes in 2013.
Glenn Phillips holds the ninth spot, having hit 97 sixes in 2021. Kieron Pollard is in tenth place, with 96 sixes in 2019.
