Players Retained by IPL Franchises Ahead of the Auction

Players Retained by IPL Franchises Ahead of the Auction:

The upcoming mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to take place this November. Although the organizers have not made any official announcements yet, the league authorities are considering making some changes to several rules before this auction.

This time, there will be a full auction, and all 10 teams will build new squads. The entire process will take two days. Initially, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) considered holding the auction in Dubai due to the popularity of Indian cricket there. Later, they also considered two cities in Saudi Arabia for the venue.

Meanwhile, the franchises are engaged in a competition to retain their key players before the auction. Teams are planning who to retain and who to release, and they have already published preliminary lists.

By October 31, all franchises must submit their list of retained players. Each team can retain up to six players before the auction, and at least one of them must be a domestic player. Teams can also choose to retain fewer than six players. They will be able to use the “Right to Match” (RTM) card during the auction to bring back released players.

Cricketers who retired from international cricket five years ago will be considered as domestic players. There are no restrictions on the number of domestic or overseas players a team can retain.

For the first-choice retention, teams will have to pay INR 18 crore. The second-choice player will receive INR 14 crore, and the third-choice player will receive INR 11 crore. For the fourth-choice player, the team will again have to pay INR 18 crore, and the fifth-choice player will receive INR 14 crore. Retaining a domestic player will cost INR 4 crore.
