Just as when Afghanistan started to look intimidating at the Chidambaram Stadium of Chennai, Phillips and Latham turned the game around for New Zealand. The duo steered the Kiwis to a 149 runs victory over Afghanistan.

Afghanistan won the toss and sent the Kiwis to bat first. As usual, the Kiwi batters took a cautionary approach to the unpredictable Afghan bowling. However, the Afghans nearly caught the Kiwi top-order off guard when they took out Ravindra, Young, and Mitchell within two overs.
From the ruins of the top-order, Phillips and Latham took matters into their own hand. Their decisive partnership of 144 runs helped New Zealand reach 288 runs within 50 Overs. Glenn Phillips’s 71 runs and Tom Latham’s 68 runs rescued New Zealand from a disaster.
On the other hand, poor fielding & dropped catches shrouded Afghanistan’s chances of winning the match. In terms of batting, the previously shinning Gurbaz and Zardan were totally ineffective. Santer and Lockie collected 3 wickets each, making the Afghan batters fruitless on the pitch. The continuous drop of wickets resulted in an Afghan total of 139 runs.
As predicted, Glenn Phillips received the Player of the Match for his praiseworthy innings of 71 runs out of 80 balls. Without Glenn or Latham’s contribution, the Afghans were all in to grab another win yesterday.
