Determined to succeed in the T20 World Cup, Pakistan is taking new initiatives after their loss in the last final. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has a special plan to achieve success this time.
They are considering appointing Sir Viv Richards, a two-time World Cup-winning cricketer with the West Indies, as the team mentor. Richards has previously served as a mentor for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2016.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is keen on bringing a prominent figure to join Babar Azam’s team. Additionally, since most of the Super Eight matches will be held in the West Indies, Richards’ experience could be valuable.
A PCB source stated, “Sir Richards has some media commitments during the World Cup, but efforts are being made to include him in the Pakistan team. The only reason is the immense respect Pakistani cricketers have for him.”
In the last two T20 World Cups, Matthew Hayden served as the mentor for the Pakistan team, helping them reach the semifinals and finals, respectively.
According to PCB sources, Chairman Naqvi has also instructed the hiring of a foreign head curator. Australia’s Tony Hemmings is currently the leading candidate for the position.
