Cricket analysts are generally cautious about making predictions regarding recent Pakistan cricket. As a result, Babar Azam’s team is usually labeled a dark horse rather than a favorite in any tournament.
However, former Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi doesn’t care about any of that. He claims Pakistan is a title contender.
In 2009, Pakistan won the championship in the second edition of the T20 World Cup, with Shahid Afridi leading the team. Since then, Pakistan has been unable to clinch the title in this format. Although they came very close in the last edition, they had to be content with being runners-up.
Now, Pakistan stands at the door of another T20 World Cup. However, Pakistan is not in its best form. Additionally, repeated changes in various positions have prevented the team from settling. Despite this, the former captain insists Pakistan is a favorite in the World Cup.
In a PCB video on Tuesday, Afridi said, “The conditions in the West Indies and the United States are quite suitable for our cricketers. Our spinners and pace bowlers are good, and the batters are also in excellent form. Another important aspect is fielding, so every opportunity should be utilized.”
In recent months, Pakistan cricket has seen no shortage of drama regarding captaincy. However, Afridi advises everyone to support Babar and get organized under his leadership. He hopes that if everything goes well, Pakistan will play in the final under Babar’s captaincy.
Afridi said, “The whole team should support Babar, especially the seniors. When the captain makes a decision, it should be made fearlessly. I am confident that Pakistan will play in the World Cup final.”
