After winning the ODI series, Pakistan faced the opposite outcome in the T20Is. Losing the first two matches and the series, they completed the full cycle of failure in the final match, ending up with a 3-0 whitewash against Australia. Mohammad Rizwan’s team suffered a heavy defeat.
In the final match of the series on Monday in Hobart, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first but failed to capitalize. They were bowled out for just 117 runs in 18.1 overs. In response, Australia comfortably chased down the target in just 11.2 overs with 7 wickets in hand.
This was the first time Australia inflicted such a whitewash on Pakistan in any T20I series.
Pakistan had a promising start despite losing Sahibzada Farhan (7) early. Babar Azam and Haseebullah stitched a 61-run partnership in 6.4 overs. However, Haseebullah’s dismissal for 24 off 19 balls broke the momentum, and the rest of the batting lineup crumbled.
From 61 for 1, Pakistan were bowled out for 117 in 18.1 overs. Apart from Babar Azam’s 41 off 28 balls, there was little to talk about. Shaheen Afridi contributed 16 runs off 12 balls, but others like Agha Salman and Usman Khan failed to make an impact.
For Australia, Aaron Hardie took three wickets, while Spencer Johnson and Adam Zampa bagged two each. Nathan Ellis and Bartlett claimed one wicket apiece.
In the chase, Australia lost Matthew Short (2) in the third over. Fellow opener Jack Fraser-McGurk played a quick 18 off 11 balls but couldn’t stay long. Skipper Josh Inglis made 27 off 24 balls but failed to carry the innings further.
However, Marcus Stoinis took charge, smashing an unbeaten 61 off 27 balls to secure the victory. Travis Head remained not out on 7 as Australia reached the target in just 11.2 overs.
