Pakistan Firm on Champions Trophy Stance

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reiterated its firm position regarding hosting the Champions Trophy, following the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informing the International Cricket Council (ICC) of its unwillingness to play in Pakistan. While the PCB has shown readiness to address India’s concerns, it remains unwilling to adopt a hybrid model for the tournament, leaving India’s participation in doubt.

The BCCI has suggested that, similar to the Asia Cup, matches involving India in the Champions Trophy be held in a neutral venue under a hybrid model. However, the PCB insists that all matches should take place in Pakistan. On Monday, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated, “If India has any concerns about sending their team to Pakistan, they should communicate directly with us. We are ready to resolve those issues. There should be no reason for India to have problems coming to Pakistan.”

Naqvi also revealed that the PCB has sent a letter to the ICC seeking an explanation for India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan but is yet to receive a response. He said, “We are in direct communication with the ICC and have asked for an answer, but we haven’t received one yet.”

When asked about discussions with Jay Shah if he assumes the ICC chairmanship, Naqvi replied, “That’s not how things work. Every board is independent and has its own stance. The ICC must uphold its credibility as it represents all member nations.”

Once again, Naqvi urged for a separation between politics and cricket, stating, “Sports and politics are two distinct fields. I don’t want any country to mix them. I am hopeful that India will eventually come to Pakistan.”
