Pacer Shoriful Islam has set a record in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He claimed four wickets for just five runs, making history as no other bowler has ever taken four wickets in an innings for such few runs in BPL history. Additionally, this performance marks the best bowling figures of his career in recognized T20 cricket.
On Thursday (January 30), at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Chittagong Kings faced off against Sylhet Strikers. After losing the toss, Chittagong batted first and posted 196 runs for six wickets. In reply, Sylhet was bowled out for 100 runs in 15.2 overs. With this massive 96-run victory, Chittagong now has 14 points and a strong chance of securing a top-two spot.
Shoriful was exceptional right from the start. In the second over of the match, which was also his first, he claimed his first wicket by dismissing debutant Jawad Abrar. Returning to the attack in the final over of the powerplay, he struck again, bowling Rony Talukdar on the very first delivery.
He became even more lethal in the 13th over. On the second ball of the over, he dismissed Zakir, and just one ball later, he removed Tanzim Hasan Sakib. Shoriful conceded only one run in that over while taking two wickets.
The world record for the most economical four-wicket haul in T20 cricket is jointly held by Cyprus pacer Chamal Sadun and Tanzanian left-arm spinner Yalinde Nkanya, both of whom took four wickets for just one run.
