On Monday, during the fourth day of the ongoing second and final Test in Rawalpindi, Hasan Mahmud took 5 wickets for 43 runs in 10.4 overs in Pakistan’s second innings. In just his third Test match, he achieved his first-ever 5-wicket haul in an innings.
In fact, he became the first Bangladeshi pacer to achieve the feat of taking 5 wickets in an innings in Test cricket. Previously, four Bangladeshi spinners had taken 5-wicket hauls in an innings against Pakistan. They are Mohammad Rafique (twice), Shakib Al Hasan, Taijul Islam (twice), and Mehedi Hasan Miraz.
Hasan Mahmud is also the second Bangladeshi pacer across all formats to take 5 wickets in an innings against Pakistan. Before him, cutter master Mustafizur Rahman took 5 wickets in an ODI against Pakistan. In the 2019 World Cup, Mustafizur took 5 wickets for 75 runs in 10 overs against Pakistan.
In T20 Internationals, Mahmudullah Riyad, Al-Amin Hossain, and Mohammad Ashraful hold the record for the highest number of wickets in an innings against Pakistan, each having taken 3 wickets.
