Nepal made history, Against the reigning world champions West Indies, they clinched a historic victory. They easily surpassed the Caribbean’s massive target of over two hundred runs. Leading the team from the front was captain Rohit Paudel, who hit a century.
In the first match of the five-match T20i series, Nepal faced West Indies on yesterday. Despite being a star-studded team, the Caribbean players found Nepal to be a formidable opponent, featuring many familiar faces from world cricket.
However, Nepal snatched victory twice from the reigning champions, taking home a win by 4 wickets. Losing the toss, West Indies first batted, scoring 204 runs, losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. In response, Nepal chased down the target with 6 wickets remaining in 19.4 overs.
Batting first at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, the Caribbean lost Charles’ wicket in the very first over. Andre Fletcher also couldn’t perform well and was out for 13 runs. However, Allic Athanaze managed to score 47 runs off 25 balls, helping West Indies reach 204 runs.
Then, captain Roston Chase scored 74 runs off 46 balls, and Casey Carty contributed 38 runs off 26 balls, leading the Caribbean to a challenging total.
Nepal’s opening partnership didn’t start as expected. However, Rohit, batting at number three, remained steady throughout. With a bit of support from others, he single-handedly led the team to victory, scoring 112 runs off 54 balls, with 10 fours and 6 sixes. Dipendra Singh contributed with 24 runs, the second-highest score for Nepal.
West Indies took two wickets each, with Mathew Forde and Obed McCoy. Kimmo Paul took one wicket as well.
