Although Bangladesh has begun preparations for the upcoming Zimbabwe series, the possibility of experienced opener Tamim Iqbal returning to international cricket remains uncertain. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not provided any clear indication on this matter.
Tamim played international matches last September, but injuries and absences from the national team have kept him out since then. Amidst this, Tamim requested to be exempted from the national contract for the upcoming year, hinting at a potential end to his international career.
However, neither Tamim nor the BCB has made any definitive statements regarding his return. When asked about Tamim’s potential return, BCB’s cricket operations chairman, Jalal Yunus, stated that there have been no discussions with Tamim on this matter.
Although discussions were held about Tamim’s future plans, Jalal stated that no agreement has been reached to disclose the outcome of those discussions.
Tamim’s outstanding performance in the recent Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Fortune Barishal, where he emerged as the highest run-scorer of the season, sparked speculation about his return to T20 cricket. However, despite his success in T20s, Tamim has not made any announcements regarding his retirement from the format.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s national team captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, has expressed his desire to see Tamim return to international cricket. However, the uncertainty surrounding Tamim’s return still prevails.
