Last 5 ODIs: Mustafiz Outscored Shanto

Bangladesh’s middle-order batter, Shanto, just got outscored by a tailender, Mustafiz. Although comical, the fast bowler showed more consistency with the bat than Najmul Hossain Shanto. The entire team is suffering from a decade-old problem with batting performance. This poor display of batting from the Tiger squad is undoubtedly producing costly defeats. Recently, the team faced a shocking loss against a much weaker foe, the Netherlands.

Mustafizur Rahman’s batting consistency

Mustafizur in the last five ODI: 20(35), 11(21), 1* (7), 4 (10), 3 (9)

Even though he is supposed to take wickets and pressurize opponent batters, the 28-year-old bowler is contributing more runs for the team from the lower order. Not only individual runs, Mustafizur apparently made short partnerships with other tailenders like Taskin Ahmed and others on multiple matches. Such responsible batting coming out from the tail-end highlights the failure of the middle-order batters in bright red color.

Shanto’s batting inconsistency

Najmul Hossain Shanto is an experienced batter in every form of Cricket. He has been a key winning factor for Bangladesh on countless occasions. However, his performance in the World Cup so far has been monotone. Against South Africa and England, Shanto failed to add any run beside his name. Furthermore, his innings of 9, 8, and 7 against Netherlands, India, and New Zealand indicate his current form against bigger opponents. Shanto’s only noteworthy performance (59) was against Afghanistan in the opening match of the CWC 2023.
