Mushfiqur’s 6,000 Test Runs: The First Bangladeshi to Achieve the Feat

Mushfiqur Rahim has become the first Bangladeshi to join the elite club of 6,000 Test runs. He reached this milestone on the second day of the first Test against South Africa at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Before this match, Mushfiq had scored 5,961 runs in 92 matches at an average of 38.45, with 11 centuries and 27 half-centuries. He was just 39 runs away from the 6,000-run mark.

In the first innings of the match, Mushfiq was dismissed for 11 runs, leaving him needing 28 runs to complete 6,000. By the end of the second day of the second innings, he remained unbeaten on 31. Along the way, this right-handed veteran batter became the first Bangladeshi and the 74th batter in the world to reach 6,000 Test runs. Mushfiqur also holds the record for the highest number of Test runs for Bangladesh.

Mushfiqur made his Test debut against England at Lord’s in 2005. To date, he has scored 6,003 runs in 93 matches and 172 innings.

Following Mushfiqur, dashing opener Tamim Iqbal holds the second-highest Test run tally for Bangladesh, scoring 5,134 runs in 70 matches with 10 centuries and 31 half-centuries.

In third place is Shakib Al Hasan, with 4,609 runs in 71 matches, including 5 centuries and 31 half-centuries.

Mominul Haque is in fourth place, having scored 4,269 runs in 66 matches with 13 centuries and 19 half-centuries.
