Mumbai Indians clinched a remarkable victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League. Playing in Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, Bangalore scored 196 runs, with Mumbai chasing down the target with 27 balls to spare and seven wickets in hand.
This marks Mumbai’s second win in five matches, while Bangalore suffers their fifth loss in six matches, four of which have been close encounters.
After winning the toss, Bangalore was sent to bat by Mumbai. However, their start wasn’t ideal. Virat Kohli lost his wicket for just 3 runs, initiating Bangalore’s innings. Another opener, Faf du Plessis, stayed on the crease but departed for 8 runs, partnering with Rajat Patidar. Together, they built a partnership of 82 runs off 47 balls before Patidar fell for 50 runs, breaking the partnership. Du Plessis couldn’t stay longer either, departing for 61 runs off 40 balls.
Then, Dinesh Karthik took charge with his aggressive batting. His 53 runs off 23 balls bolstered Bangalore’s total.
As Mumbai took the field, Bumrah led the attack. He conceded 21 runs in 4 overs, taking 5 wickets.
To chase the target, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma stepped in. They added 101 runs off 53 balls in the opening partnership. Kishan scored 69 runs off 34 balls before departing, followed by Sharma’s 38 runs off 38 balls.
Then came Suryakumar, who wreaked havoc. He scored a quickfire 50 off 17 balls. After his departure at 52 runs, Pandya continued the onslaught, scoring an unbeaten 21 runs off 6 balls, while Mumbai’s captain, Pollard, remained not out at 16 runs off 10 balls.
