Bangladesh began their World Test Championship campaign with the first Test of the series against Sri Lanka in Galle. However, the team’s reliable spin all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz missed the match due to a viral fever.
According to the team management, the right-handed all-rounder is expected to play in the second Test in Colombo. Miraz has already recovered from the fever and rejoined the team. He couldn’t practice before the Galle Test due to his illness.
Ahead of the Colombo Test, Miraz had a separate training session in Galle on Thursday. Team management has confirmed that he is doing much better now and has even returned to the field.
Miraz was seen in the dressing room during the Galle Test, which indicated that he had recovered and was ready to rejoin the squad and resume training. Before the Galle Test, he was kept isolated to prevent the fever from spreading to others.
In Miraz’s absence, opener Anamul Haque Bijoy was included in the playing XI. He was dismissed for a duck in the first innings. For team balance, Bijoy might be left out of the Colombo Test XI. However, depending on the pitch and conditions, Nayeem Hasan might also be benched to accommodate Miraz in the team.
