Who does the World Cup-winning Aussie captain see as the favorites? Former star cricketers are announcing their favorite teams for the World Cup in their own way. Michael Clarke, the captain who led Australia to victory in the 2015 ODI World Cup, has also revealed his probable favorite team.
According to him, India is going to win the upcoming T20 World Cup and they are the top favorites. Indian cricketers have prepared themselves with the latest IPL season. Besides, Clarke has placed his bets on them, reminding us of their busy schedule throughout the year. In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, the former Aussie star explained why India is the favorite.
Clarke said, ‘I think India is the favorite for this World Cup because they have played a lot more cricket (matches), which I have said before. Their preparation is fantastic. The conditions in the Caribbean islands and America are different, but there is a similarity with India, which the country’s cricketers can take advantage of.’
India’s squad includes four spinners. Clarke considers this both a risky and effective strategy for the team in the World Cup, ‘The squad India has chosen carries a risk because their World Cup team is quite reliant on spin.
The conditions here are quite different from Australia. Based on the experience of playing in the Caribbean region, I can say that if spin can be utilized correctly, there is a greater chance of success here. That’s why India is the biggest obstacle for us (Australia) on the path to winning the World Cup.’
The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup will start on June 2nd on the grounds of the United States and West Indies. In this World Cup, two rival countries, India and Pakistan, are in the same group ‘A’. The rest of their group companions are Ireland, host United States, and Canada.
