Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the world’s top all-rounder in the World Test Championship. In the ongoing cycle of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC), his all-round performances have taken him to new heights.
Miraz has scored 544 runs and taken 34 wickets, an incredible achievement with both bat and ball. According to these statistics, he is the only cricketer in this WTC cycle to achieve the rare feat of 500+ runs and 30+ wickets. Additionally, in this cycle, Miraz is Bangladesh’s highest run-scorer and highest wicket-taker.
Following Miraz in the list of top all-rounders, Joe Root has scored 1300 runs but has taken only 10 wickets. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja is the closest to Miraz in terms of all-round success, with 331 runs and 31 wickets. Another Indian all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin, continues to impress with 253 runs and 39 wickets. England’s Gus Atkinson has also made his mark among the top all-rounders, with 204 runs and 38 wickets.
Before this WTC cycle, only two cricketers had achieved such feats. Ben Stokes dominated the 2019-21 cycle with 1334 runs and 34 wickets, and again in the 2021-23 cycle with 971 runs and 30 wickets. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja was one of the top performers in the 2021-23 cycle with 721 runs and 47 wickets. Miraz has now firmly established his name in this list, making him a key figure in the future of Bangladesh cricket.
In the ongoing 2023-25 cycle, Miraz has taken 34 wickets at an average of 29 across 16 innings, the highest for Bangladesh. Behind him are Taijul Islam with 24 wickets and Hasan Mahmud with 23 wickets. With the bat, Miraz has scored 544 runs at an average of over 40 in 16 innings.
The second-highest run-scorer for Bangladesh is Mominul Haque with 478 runs, followed by Mushfiqur Rahim with 452 runs. Therefore, Miraz is not only the first Bangladeshi bowler to take 30 wickets in this cycle but also the first Bangladeshi batsman to score 500 runs. Globally, Miraz is the first player in this cycle to achieve the double of 500 runs and 30 wickets.
Miraz’s rise is a blessing for Bangladesh. Once a promising spinner, he has now transformed himself into a world-class all-rounder, excelling equally with both bat and ball. His achievements demonstrate that Bangladesh cricket has found a genuine all-rounder who can lead the team to greater success.
