Towards the end of his career, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former Indian captain, achieved a remarkable milestone. He touched the milestone of 300 dismissals as a wicketkeeper in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), being accepted as the first wicketkeeper to achieve this feat.
In an Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Sunday (March 31) between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, Dhoni reached this milestone.
In the eleventh over of Delhi’s innings, Ravindra Jadeja’s ball was caught by opener Prithvi Shaw, completing Dhoni’s 300 dismissals, surpassing Chennai’s former captain. Among Dhoni’s 300 dismissals at the age of 42, he has 213 catches and 87 stumpings.
In this list, Dhoni is jointly in second place with Dinesh Karthik and Kamran Akmal, both of whom have 274 dismissals each. Following them with 270 dismissals is Quinton de Kock, and then Josh Buttler with 209 dismissals.
Despite playing a fiery innings with the bat, Dhoni couldn’t lead his team to victory. Chennai lost to Delhi by 20 runs. Despite aiming for a target of 192 runs, batting at number eight, Dhoni remained unbeaten on 37 runs with three sixes and four fours off 16 balls. He batted first in this role in the team’s three matches so far.
