Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won their third Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 title as they beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 8 wickets and with 57 balls to spare as they chased down the target of 114 in just 10.3 overs.
SRH were bowled out for 113. Needing 114 to win the match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the batters of the KKR made no fuss about it as they went for it straightaway, Venkatesh Iyer led the chase with a fifty as he remained unbeaten on 52 off just 26 balls. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 39 off 32 balls.
Opting to bat first, Hyderabad never got going and only four batters got into the double figures and the entire team was rolled over for merely 113 in 18.3 overs. Pat Cummins top-scored with 24 as Andre Russell took three wickets for the Knight Riders, Mitchell Strac with his two wickets gave early blows to Hyderabad and then Harshit Rana got crucial wickets for Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy.
Earlier SRH skipper Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first against the
Shahbaz Ahmed came in for Abdul Samad in Hyderabad playing 11. Shreyas Iyer on the other hand said that he was happy to have lost the toss as he wanted to bowl first. There was no change in the Kolkata playing 11.
