Rohit Sharma, a legendary Indian cricketer, recently retired from T20Is. At 37, discussions are already underway about his potential departure from Test captaincy, sparking concerns among Indian cricket fans.
However, seasoned Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara believes there is no reason for worry. According to him, India has already found a long-term leader in Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah’s captaincy during the Perth Test earned widespread praise. Not only did he lead well, but he also performed brilliantly under pressure. His bowling in the first innings was instrumental in securing the team’s victory. Pujara suggests that Bumrah should be the next in line for Test captaincy.
In an interview with a website, Pujara said, “There’s no doubt that Bumrah is a great option. We played a tough series in Australia, and the first Test always brings pressure. But the way he handled the responsibility in challenging situations was exceptional.”
Pujara further added, “Bumrah has the ability to lead the team. If you listen to him, you’ll notice he never talks about himself. It’s always about the team and his teammates. His suggestions are mature, reflecting the mindset of a seasoned player.”
This endorsement adds weight to Bumrah’s credentials as a future leader of India’s Test side.
