India in Trouble Despite Bowling Out New Zealand for 235
India could have ended the day on a high, with Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja putting them in a favorable position. However, in the late afternoon, India’s batting faltered with erratic shots and running, resulting in the loss of three quick wickets and putting the hosts under pressure.
On Friday, in the third Test at the Wankhede Stadium, India faced off against New Zealand. The Kiwis, who batted first, couldn’t go far and were bowled out for 235 runs. In response, India also struggled, finishing at 86 for 4.
Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were instrumental in bowling out New Zealand on the first day. Jadeja took five wickets for 65 runs, while Sundar added four wickets to his tally.
New Zealand lost their first three wickets for 72 runs due to Sundar’s aggressive bowling, with Tom Latham’s 28 being the only notable score. However, Daryl Mitchell and Will Young stabilized the innings with an 87-run partnership for the fourth wicket before Jadeja and Sundar struck again.
New Zealand’s last seven wickets fell for just 76 runs. Apart from Mitchell’s 82 and Young’s 71, none of the other Kiwi batsmen managed a significant score, with six of them dismissed for single digits.
In response, Rohit Sharma, who was given a lifeline, couldn’t capitalize and was dismissed for 18. After losing the opening partnership at 25, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill formed a 53-run stand.
However, late in the day, India took a big hit when Jaiswal was bowled by Ajaz Patel for 30. Patel also dismissed nightwatchman Ravichandran Ashwin off the very next ball.
At 78 for 3, India lost another wicket in an unusual manner as Virat Kohli was run out for 4 in a mix-up while attempting a single with three balls remaining. Shubman Gill remains unbeaten on 31.
