There are no obstacles preventing India from traveling to Bangladesh in August to play the scheduled ODI and T20 series. As the Indian government has not imposed any restrictions, the BCCI is hopeful that the series will proceed as planned. This has been reported by Indian media.
However, it was also stated that if the government takes any decision regarding the matter, the BCCI will follow that directive.
India is scheduled to visit Bangladesh in August to play a three-match ODI and T20 series. This schedule was pre-arranged. However, recent political tensions created uncertainty regarding the white-ball series. Still, neither the BCB nor the BCCI has issued any official statement on the matter.
In recent years, the Indian government has frequently intervened in the national cricket team’s overseas tours, especially to countries in Asia, including Pakistan.
Therefore, there were speculations that the Modi administration might also clarify its stance on the Bangladesh series. However, despite the series approaching soon, the BCCI has yet to receive any directive from the government.
With no interference from the government, the BCCI is proceeding with a positive outlook. They are eager to redeem themselves after failing to win an ODI series on Bangladeshi soil for the past 11 years. A game plan is being devised with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in mind. If all goes well, this will be the first time these big stars play in an ODI match after announcing their retirement from Test cricket.
Regarding the tour to Bangladesh, the BCCI stated: “As of now, there are no problems in organizing the series. There have been no discussions suggesting that the series should be canceled or postponed. Moreover, there have been no instructions from the government to cancel the series. If such a situation arises, we will make decisions accordingly.”
The Bangladesh-India series will begin with an ODI on August 17 in Mirpur, as announced by Faruque Ahmed’s board this past April. According to the original schedule, the final ODI will be played in Chattogram on August 23. The T20 series will begin at the same venue on August 26 and conclude in Mirpur on August 31.
India has never played a T20 series in Bangladesh before. For the first time, the reigning world champions will participate in the shortest format of the game on Bangladeshi soil.
However, regular T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav is unlikely to participate in the series due to a hernia operation. In their last T20 series in India, Bangladesh had lost 3-0 to the hosts.
