Shakib Al Hasan has stepped down from the captaincy of the Bangladesh national cricket team in all three formats. As a result, the responsibility of leadership in all three formats has been handed over to Najmul Hossain Shanto.
After the board meeting on Monday, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon revealed plans to appoint Shanto as captain for this year, just like in the previous year.
Shanto has prior experience leading Bangladesh, having captained the team in the absence of the regular captain on multiple occasions, even tossing the coin on several occasions. This number is not insignificant! So far, Shanto has led Bangladesh in a total of 11 matches, wearing the white jersey for two matches. In one Test, Bangladesh won a match after losing one. In the One Day format, out of 6 matches under Shanto’s leadership, Bangladesh lost 5 matches, with one victory. Similarly, in T20Is, Shanto led in 3 matches, winning 1 and losing 1, with one match abandoned.
