In the upcoming T20 World Cup, Heinrich Malan is going to be the head coach of the Ireland team. However, he has also applied to be the head coach of the High-Performance (HP) unit of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Earlier, David Hemp held that position. Later, he was appointed as the batting coach of the Bangladesh national team, leaving the position vacant. On February 27th, BCB assigned Hemp as the batting coach for Shakib-Shanto.
Since May 2023, he has been in charge of the HP unit. After assigning Hemp to a new role, BCB is now looking for someone suitable for the HP unit. They have been searching for qualified individuals for that role since May.
Irish coach Malan has also applied to be the coach of the HP unit, as reported by Cricket Buzz. Naimur Rahman Durjoy, chairman of BCB’s HP unit, said, “We will interview the shortlisted coaches for the HP unit.
They might be called next week.” If BCB wants to include former South African cricketer Malan in that list, they won’t be able to do so initially. This is because the T20 World Cup will be held on the grounds of West Indies and the United States from June 1st.
Consequently, Malan will be busy with the Ireland team during that time. At the same time, the HP unit camp in Bangladesh will commence.
