The three bowlers in the world who have achieved the feat of taking a hat-trick in their debut Test match. Every young cricketer dreams of playing cricket for their country. However, they want to do something special to remember their debut match. But very few are successful, and some start with a good performance but end up losing.
It is said that a player’s true talent is recognized in Test cricket. Just as scoring runs or hitting fours and sixes is easy for batsmen, similarly, taking a hat-trick for bowlers is equally difficult.
Three bowlers who have taken a hat-trick in their debut Test matches:
1) Maurice Allom: Maurice Allom became the first bowler in the history of Test cricket to take a hat-trick. He achieved this feat against New Zealand in the 1929-30 season. He dismissed four batsmen in his first five balls in the debut Test match. However, his career was not long-lasting, as he played only five Test matches.
2) Peter Petherick: New Zealand fast bowler Peter Petherick took a hat-trick against Pakistan in 1974. He created history by dismissing Javed Miandad, Wasim Raja, and Intikhab Alam in three consecutive balls. Despite taking a hat-trick in his debut Test match, his Test career was not prolonged. He played only five Test matches.
3) Damien Fleming: Australian fast bowler Damien Fleming made his Test debut against Pakistan in 1994. He then took three wickets in three consecutive balls – Saleem Malik, Aamir Malik, and Inzamam-ul-Haq. However, surprisingly, despite taking a hat-trick in his debut match, he couldn’t prolong his career for long. He played only 20 Test matches for Australia.
