He is the only Zimbabwean cricketer to score centuries against Australia in both ODI and Test cricket. One of those centuries came during a 2001 tri-series game where Zimbabwe had to chase a massive target of 303.
He made 119, putting up an 187-run partnership with Grant Flower. Unfortunately, Zimbabwe fell just one run short of Australia’s total. Two years later, he played a similar type of knock against India when chasing a target of 281 during a VB series game.
Zimbabwe were on 3 for 46 when he and Sean Ervine got together to build the Zimbabwean record of 202 runs for the 4th wicket. Both batsmen went on to score centuries, and once again, unfortunately, they fell four runs short of the winning target.
He is a former Zimbabwean captain and a batsman with the ability to bat anywhere in the batting order according to the requirements. Like many other fine Zimbabwean cricketers, his career also came to an end during the mid-2000s due to political interference. Here’s wishing a very happy 52nd birthday to former Zimbabwean cricketer Stuart Carlisle.
