Mustafizur Rahman has completed 9 years in international cricket. Despite adding many records to his name in these nine years, Bangladesh as a team has yet to achieve any major titles. This is a matter of regret for the cutter master.
Mustafiz believes that to become a great player, significant achievements are necessary. Recently, in a video message on the official Facebook page of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Mustafiz shared these thoughts.
He said, “There’s no end to doing well. I will try to do even better than I have done before. I think a player becomes great when he wins major events, wins big trophies. It is only then that he is called a great player. This regret has always been there.”
Bangladesh’s notable achievements in international cricket include playing in the Asia Cup final three times, reaching the quarter-finals in the 2015 Cricket World Cup, reaching the semi-finals in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, and winning the tri-nation series trophy held in Ireland in 2019.
However, Mustafiz believes that to be considered a great cricketer, even bigger achievements are needed.
The left-arm pacer also spoke about cricket’s three formats. Although he doesn’t play Tests, Mustafiz is one of Bangladesh’s main pacers in white-ball cricket. He mentioned that he enjoys the shorter format of the game, specifically T20 cricket, the most.
Mustafiz said, “Playing for the country is a matter of pride. I always enjoy playing for the country. If I have to say what I enjoy the most, I would say I enjoy T20 cricket a lot. This format is quite pressurizing. That’s probably why I like it. I enjoy playing under pressure a lot. I share whatever I have learned with our bowlers, Taskin, Shariful, Saifuddin, Hasan Mahmud, and if that helps us improve even a little, that would be great.”
